Master-Planned Broward Community

Apartments in Coral Springs, FL

Welcome to Coral Springs, a master-planned Broward County city about 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale, built from the ground up in the 1960s around parks, schools, and a distinctive covered bridge.

Coral Springs is a city in Broward County, Florida, located about 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale and considered a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area. Its origins are unusually deliberate for a Florida suburb: the city was chartered on July 10, 1963, and master-planned by Coral Ridge Properties, led by Fort Lauderdale builders James S. Hunt and Joe Taravella. The 1966 master plan imposed strict aesthetic controls — prohibiting neon signs, billboards, and certain building colors — to create an orderly, tree-lined suburban ideal that still shapes the city's look today. From those planned beginnings, Coral Springs grew into one of Broward County's largest cities, with roughly 134,000 residents. The city is known for its green space, its arts and cultural institutions, and a notable landmark: Florida's only covered bridge. The Coral Springs Museum of Art and the city's museum of history anchor the cultural landscape, while the annual "Our Town" festival celebrates the community's identity. The city's residential fabric is organized around its many planned neighborhoods, from golf-course communities such as Eagle Trace and Heron Bay to gated and lakefront developments like Wyndham Lakes and The Isles. The Sawgrass Expressway provides the primary commuter corridor to Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise, and the wider South Florida highway network. Recreation is extensive, with dozens of parks, a major aquatic complex, and facilities such as the Florida Panthers IceDen and the Sawgrass Nature Center giving residents year-round options close to home. For homebuyers, Coral Springs represents a mature, fully built-out community where the original plan's emphasis on aesthetics, parks, and schools remains evident decades later.
